A TRIP ACROSS CANADA IN MUSEUM QUALITY BUDD CARS

In late May of 2010 we took a 3 week trip across Canada by train.  The brochure above is from 1955 and the same cars are being used today.  We had different trains along the way but spent 3 days and nights on the Canadian.

Amtrak should be assigning its people to ride this train; on time at every stop with great food and service

At least three dome cars plus the dome lounge at the end

Everyone's favorite car

The original outside swing hanger trucks

In the observation car, rear seats, seats in the dome and beneath the dome, and two or three sleeper compartments.  Cars were reworked and modernised by Budd after VIA Rail obtained them.

And you could usually find seats up here

Six deluxe sleeper compartments in our car

Typically four to eight individual sleeper compartments depending on the car

One of the single compartments.  That is the toilet at lower left with the padded swing-up lid.

A two person compartment, usually three of these in the car

Food and service in the diner was fantastic
